Assisting Minister

The assisting minister role, to describe it briefly, has deep roots in Christian history. In the early church the deacons were initially chosen to take extra food from the offering at holy communion to those in need. As that role expanded, they came to serve as assisting ministers in worship: praying for the needs of the world, receiving and giving thanks for the offering, setting the table with bread and wine, assisting the presiding minister at the table, serving the people, and sending the people forth to love and serve their neighbor. At this point, you do not need to be confident that this is your call, or be sure you’ll be able to do it well.
