Membership at Bethany
Church membership isn’t about joining a club and paying dues. It is about seeking to draw closer to God through community and supporting that community with your gifts of time, talent, and offering as you are able. To become a member of Bethany Lutheran Church is a process of, first, worshipping with us with some regularity. This is the best way to get to know who we are and how God’s Spirit is active among us. As you worship you will soon discover that you are welcomed and invited to participate in anything we do at Bethany. Once our pastor gets to know that you worship with us he will tell you to consider him your pastor. That means if you have any pastoral needs or concerns, he will be happy to meet with you. If you are going into the hospital, he will want to visit you there. If you are in need of pastoral services, he will be most willing to assist you. You do not have to be a member to be a vital part of this community of faith. That being said, church membership is an important way for one to grow in their faith journey. Being part of a community of faith is where you make a commitment to the community and the community to you. This is an important step for nurturing your faith to one of maturity. Usually two to four times a year the pastor holds Prospective Member Gatherings. These gatherings are designed for persons interested in membership to learn thoroughly about the belief and practice of ministry that Bethany does. Then, for those seeking membership, a Sunday is mutually agreed upon wherein new members are received. |
